DAILY PROGRAM
Day 1: ARRIVAL
Arrival at Olbia airport, welcome by our English speaking tour leader/guide and coach transfer to the region of Alghero. Accommodation in a 4* hotel such as Hotel Rina, or similar. Welcome drink. Dinner and overnight stay. According to the flight schedule, possibility to have a stop in Castelsardo for a brief visit of this small typical village of the north coast, hanging between sky and sea, and rich in handicraft activities.
Day 2: CAPO CACCIA - ALGHERO
After breakfast, departure by coach for a daily excursion with our tour leader. In the morning, guided visit of Alghero, often called "the little Sardinian Barcelona" because of the Catalan style of its buildings dating back to the fourteenth century. Walk in the centre of this charming fortified town whose ramparts, between the Torre di Sulis in the south and the Porta a Mare in the north, offer a spectacular panorama. Free time for lunch (not included). In the afternoon, drive to the bay of Porto Conte, and guided tour of the protected area of Capo Caccia, the most important natural site in Sardinia, where you can admire the spectacle of its cliffs overlooking the sea and its karstic cavities, including the most famous Neptune’s Grotto. Possibility (optional, not included) to visit the caves that extend for about 4 km in the promontory of Capo Caccia. Back to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: NURAGHI VALLEY - SASSARI
Breakfast at the hotel, and departure by coach for a daily excursion with our tour leader. In the morning, drive to the Meilogu, site guarding the Nuraghi Valley. The "nuraghe" is a megalithic construction of conical shape, which testify the human presence on the island since prehistoric times. Guided visit of the Nuraghe Santu Antine, a jewel of nuragic architecture dating back to the 15th century B.C. The visit continues to the Necropolis of Sant’Andrea Priu, a vast and spectacular funerary archaeological area characteristic of the pre-nuragic Sardinia. Lunch at the restaurant along the way. In the afternoon, road to Sassari, with a stop and visit to the Church of Santa Trinità in Saccargia, one of the most famous and beautiful Romanesque-Pisan churches in Sardinia. Continue to the centre of Sassari, and short panoramic tour of the city, characterized by the contrast between the new districts with wide avenues and the old town grouped around its cathedral. Then visit of the Cathedral of San Nicola, with its imposing 18th century Spanish Baroque façade, divided into three levels, the second of which houses the statue of Saint Nicola, patron saint of Sassari. Back to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: BOSA - ORISTANO - CAGLIARI
After breakfast, departure by coach for a daily excursion with our tour leader. In the morning, drive to the West Coast, a fabulous route that will allow you to admire all the beauty of the still wild Sardinian coasts. Stop and guided tour of Bosa, a town located in the centre of an excellent wine-growing area where the famous Malvasia is produced. Discovery of the village dominated by an ancient castle and considered one of the most beautiful villages in Italy with its colourful houses and picturesque streets. Road to Oristano, and stop at the Well of St. Christine, the best preserved nuragic well temple in the area. Free time for lunch in Oristano (not included). In the afternoon, drive to Cagliari and visit of the Archaeological Museum, where more than 4000 pieces tell a history of almost 7000 years, from prehistory to the early Middle Ages. The museum is famous above all for its collection of small nuragic bronzes, which retrace the highest point of the island's prehistoric civilization. Accommodation in a 4 * hotel located nearby, such as Hotel Califfo in Quartu Sant’Elena or similar. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: TORTOLI
Breakfast at the hotel, departure by coach for a daily excursion with our tour leader. In the morning, guided tour (half-day) of Cagliari, capital of Sardinia. Walk through the narrow streets of the historic districts overlooking the sea, including the fortified quarter of the castle rich in monuments of rare beauty: the castle with its powerful fortifications, the Rampart of Saint Remy, the Saint Pancras and Elephant Towers (external views). Then, Palazzo Regio, and the Cathedral of Santa Maria, which presents a great variety of styles due to the many alterations it has undergone since its construction, (exterior view). Free time for lunch (not included). In the afternoon departure for Tortolì, on the east coast. Accommodation in a 4* hotel, such as Hotel Arbatasar or similar. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6: NUORO - ORGOSOLO - ARZACHENA
After breakfast, departure by coach for a daily excursion with our tour leader. In the morning, road to Nuoro, capital city of the area called Barbagia. Guided tour (half day) of the centre with the Costume Museum, to discover the wonders of the customs and traditions of the ancient Sardinian way of life. Drive to Orgosolo, a village in the Gennargentu Mountains, famous for its many murals and traditional costumes. Typical lunch with the shepherds, wine included. Road to the marvellous Emerald Coast. Accommodation in a 4* hotel, such as Hotel Laconia or Hotel Morisco in Arzachena, or similar. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 7: MADDALENA ISLAND - PALAU
Breakfast at the hotel, then departure by coach for a daily excursion with our tour leader. In the morning, drive to Palau and boarding (coach included) for an excursion to island of La Maddalena, a heavenly place, whose landscapes have been sculpted by erosion due to the winds and the sea. You will discover an untouched nature, admiring white or pink sandy beaches with crystal clear waters. Return by boat to Palau. Free time for lunch (not included). In the afternoon, guided tour of the most beautiful villages and landscapes of the Emerald Coast, famous all over the world for its emerald-colored sea lined with beautiful coves of white sand, and its lively squares, some dedicated to the most unbridled luxury, attracting every summer the international jet set. Return to the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 8: DEPARTURE
Breakfast at the hotel, and coach transfer to Olbia airport with our tour escort. Check-in assistance and end of our services.
The price includes:
• 7 nights accommodation on H/B basis in mentioned 4* hotels or similar, in double room
• All dinners excluding beverages
• Welcome drink on the day of arrival
• Typical lunch with the shepherds (day 6) and lunch at the restaurant (day 3)
• The service of a professional English-speaking tour leader/guide from/to the airport and for the whole duration of the tour, accommodation and meal costs included
• Transportation by air-conditioned G.T. bus according to the itinerary, including all city access fees as currently in force, and including meals and/or accommodation expenses necessary for the driver
