DAILY PROGRAM
Day 1: ARRIVAL
Arrival at Palermo airport, welcome by our English speaking tour leader and coach transfer to Palermo area. Accommodation in 4* hotel such as Hotel Magaggiari in Cinisi, or similar. Welcome drink. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: PALERMO - MONREALE - MONDELLO
After breakfast, departure by coach for a daily excursion with our tour leader. In the morning, guided tour of the historic centre of Palermo and its many sites such as Piazza Pretoria with the seat of the Town Hall, the Pretoria Fountain, the churches of San Cataldo, San Giovanni degli Eremiti (external views) and inside visit of the magnificent Cathedral with its Arab-Norman style (included). Then visit of the impressive Norman Palace with its wonderful Palatine Chapel, decorated with a remarkable cycle of Byzantine mosaics in Arab-Norman style, among the most beautiful in the region. Drive to Monreale, on the heights of Palermo, where you will visit the cathedral of William II, maybe the most stunning building in Norman Sicily, whose walls are entirely covered with splendid Byzantine style mosaics, representing biblical scenes and Gospel episodes. Free time for lunch (not included). In the afternoon, visit of the Catacombs and Mondello, once an old fishing village and today a beach loved by Palermitan people. Back to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: CEFALÙ
Breakfast and coach departure for a daily excursion with our tour leader. In the morning, visit of Cefalù, an old fishing village. Walk through the small roads of the historical centre and discovery of the precious Medieval Wash-house almost hidden a few meters below street level, and reachable by a wide staircase made of lava stone and “lumachella”, a limestone rock. Then the Cathedral, one of the most important buildings of the Norman age. The large vault of the apse is entirely covered by the majestic image of the "Almighty Christ". Continue to Castelbuono, ancient city founded by the Byzantines. Traditional lunch with taste of local products in a typical restaurant, included wine and folk music. In the afternoon, walk through the several churches of the city centre, then visit of the Ventimiglia Castle which houses the city museum with prehistoric and natural history pieces of the Madonie. Back to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: SELINUNTE - AGRIGENTO
After breakfast, departure by coach for a daily excursion with our tour leader. In the morning, discovery of the Greek city of Selinunte, founded in the 7th century B.C. Visit of the numerous vestiges of the temples of the Eastern Hill and the Acropolis, located on a plateau overlooking the sea. Then road to Agrigento and free time for lunch (not included). In the afternoon, guided visit of Agrigento, ancient Greek city and a real historical and archaeological treasure. Tour of the Valley of the Temples, including those of Hercules, Juno, Concordia (the best preserved of the Doric temples in Sicily). Back to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: DEPARTURE
Breakfast at the hotel and, depending on the flight schedule, leisure time or possibility to add other visits (optional, extra charge), see for example Martorana Church. Transfer by coach to the airport with our tour escort. Check-in assistance and end of our services.
The price includes:
• 4 nights accommodation on H/B basis in mentioned 4* hotels or similar, in double room
• All dinners excluding beverages
• Lunch/tasting with folk music, wine included (day 3)
• The service of a professional English-speaking guide from/to the airport and for the whole duration of the tour, accommodation and meal costs included
• 5 days transportation by air-conditioned G.T. bus according to the itinerary, including all city access fees as currently in force, and including meals and/or accommodation expenses necessary for the driver
• VAT as currently in force 10% for hotels, 5% for maritime transport, 22% other services
