DAILY PROGRAM
Day 1: ARRIVAL
Arrival at Bari airport, welcome by our English speaking tour leader and coach transfer to the hotel, located in the surroundings of Alberobello. Accommodation in a 4* hotel such as Hotel Astoria in the centre or Hotel D’Aragona in Conversano, or similar. Welcome drink. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: BARI - CASTEL DEL MONTE - ALBEROBELLO
Breakfast at the hotel, then departure by coach for a daily excursion with our tour leader. In the morning, guided visit of Bari: among the historic streets of Bari Vecchia and its walls overlooking the sea, lies the Bari’s famous Basilica of St. Nicholas, one of the most beautiful examples of Roman architecture. In the old town also lies the Cathedral of San Sabino, a Roman-style church built on the ruins of a Byzantine cathedral. Continue to the majestic Swabian Castle, built by Frederick II in 1233 (external view). Free time for lunch (not included). In the afternoon, road to Castel del Monte and discovery of this isolated fortress located on one of the highest heights of the “Murge”. Visit of the castle, a unique medieval architecture masterpiece, built in the 12th century by the will of Frederick II. Back to hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: ALBEROBELLO - CASTELLANA GROTTE
Breakfast at the hotel, then departure by coach for a daily excursion with our tour leader In the morning, guided tour of Alberobello, a village recognized as a Unesco World Heritage Site, and known all over the world for its Trulli, typical dry-stone buildings with funny conical roofs. Visit of the “Trullo Sovrano”, located in the historic centre of Alberobello, and walk through the districts of Rione Monti and Rione Aia Piccola, which keep different complexes of Trulli. Traditional lunch with taste of local products in a “Masseria" nearby Alberobello, a typical farmhouse of this area. In the afternoon, road to Castellana Grotte: a complex of underground cavities at a depth of about 70 meters. Through this great gallery you can contemplate suggestive concretions of an infinite variety of colours and shapes. Back to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: LECCE
Breakfast at the hotel, then departure by coach for a daily excursion with our tour leader. Guided tour of Lecce, the Baroque pearl of southern Italy. Known as "The Florence of the South", Lecce is considered a true architectural masterpiece of the Baroque and Rococo styles. Walking through the charming streets of the historic center you will discover the exuberance of the Baroque through the facades of its remarkable monuments such as the beautiful Basilica of Santa Croce, the Dome Square with its Cathedral and other marvels with pink stone decor. Free time for lunch (not included). At the end of the day, accommodation in a 4* hotel such as Hotel Delle Palme or Hotel President, or similar. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: GALLIPOLI - OTRANTO
Breakfast at the hotel, then departure by coach for a daily excursion with our tour leader. In the morning, road to the beautiful Salento coast. First step: Gallipoli, a charming fortified city on the Gulf of Taranto. Guided tour of the old city a located on an islet connected to the mainland by a 12th century bridge; through the alleys, the small island houses the Baroque Palace of Tafuri and the Churches of St. Mary of Purity and St. Agatha. On the other side of the bridge, the modern city! Free time for lunch (not included). In the afternoon, continue towards Otranto, an ancient port city on the Adriatic coast. Visit of the village, which develops around the impressive Aragonese Castle and the Norman Cathedral. Back to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6: OSTUNI - LOCOROTONDO - ALBEROBELLO
Breakfast at the hotel, then departure by coach for a daily excursion with our tour leader. In the morning, guided tour of Ostuni, known as the “white city” because of its whitewashed houses superimposed like cubes, reminiscent of oriental cities. Walking along the narrow streets of this village you will discover the Liberty Square with its cathedral, the rich historical palaces and the old town. Free time for lunch (not included). In the afternoon, road to Bari region, stop and visit of a local farm dedicated to the production of oil, the most important and renowned product of the region, followed by a small tasting of Apulian oil. Continue towards Locorotondo, a small town built on a hill, and free visit of the village, the most famous center for wine production. Tasting of local wines. Arrival in the Alberobello region at the end of the day. Accommodation in a 4* hotel, such as Hotel Astoria located in the centre, or Hotel D’Aragona in Conversano, or similar. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 7: MATERA - ALTAMURA
Breakfast at the hotel, then departure by coach for a daily excursion with our tour leader. In the morning, guided tour of Matera, designated as European Capital of Culture in 2019. Visit of the “Sassi", a group of troglodytic houses and sanctuaries dug in the natural caves of the Murgia. Apparently these represent the first testimonies of dwellings in Italy. Free time for lunch (not included), then brief visit of the city centre. On the way back to the hotel, stop and brief visit of Altamura, famous for its bread production. Back to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 8: DEPARTURE
Breakfast at the hotel, then coach transfer to Bari airport with our tour escort. Check-in assistance and end of our services.
The price includes:
• 7 nights accommodation on H/B basis in mentioned 4* hotels or similar, in double room
